Taking Heart

Ramadan is a holy month of the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Fasting during Ramadan, is one of the “five pillars” of Islam and is performed to learn compassion, self-restraint, and generosity. A meal called an Iftar breaks the fast each day.

Taking Heart is a long-running program coordinated by MCC and the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-MN) to bring Christians and members of other faith communities together with Muslims for food and conversation. Minnesota mosques and Islamic Community Centers welcome their non-Muslim neighbors for a traditional Ramadan Iftar, inviting a time of learning and encounter.

Join other members of the Beth Jacob community at the Taking Heart Iftar Dinner at the South Metro Islamic Center! Since it takes place during Ramadan and sunset is late during summer, it is later in the evening. The program starts around 7:20 with registration, then presentation, followed by Q&A, then dinner around 9 pm. There is no charge for this program.
