Register for Allen-Gorin Annual Lecture

Sunday May 2, 9:30am to 11:00am

“Israel and Palestine—Independent and Interdependent”
With Bernard Avishai and Sam Bahour; moderated by Sharon Press

Beth Jacob Congregation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Allen-Gorin Annual Lecture. The Allen-Gorin Lecture will present an annual opportunity for Beth Jacob Congregation and the broader Twin Cities Jewish Community to address serious and pressing issues that connect us to the collective past, present, and future of our people. These lectures will present divergent views and are intended both to encourage and to challenge assumptions we may individually hold.

This year, we'll hear from Bernard Avishai and Sam Bahour about a different approach to peace. Read a little about it below, click the link to read the whole NYT op-ed they wrote, and register below to join us on Zoom from Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Mendota Heights on May 2!

“The Oslo peace process, begun in 1993, proposed two states separated by a hard border, which President Biden and inertia would seem to argue for. Yet negotiations to achieve this solution have been frustrated again and again — for reasons that are finally forcing a moment of truth: To live and thrive, Israel and Palestine must rather arrive at both independence and interdependence — two states sharing what must be shared, and separating only where they can.” Read more.

The Allen-Gorin Annual Lecture is funded by the Allen-Gorin Educational Fund, established in honor of Rabbi Morris Allen, Rabbi Emeritus, and his wife Dr. Phyllis Gorin.
